Art

At the Bellows Falls Middle School, art class is a place for experimentation and  imagination. Together we create a space that allows a safe place to make mistakes with the creative process.  We only spend a trimester together so we pack it in.

  • Ceramics: getting messy with hand building skills to make crockery, sculptures, and relief tiles.

  • Drawing: getting started with stick figures and ending with an OC (original character), and comic/ animation.

  • Color: getting to mix our own colors; introduction to color theory;  and we paint portraits of Mario characters.

  • Typography:  using the aesthetic of graffiti, we learn about the structure and design of text.

  • Dimension: understanding the difference between 1D, 2D, and 3D.  This is where we use the Glowforge to create houses that can include an LED light element.

We have been introduced to 21st century tools like the Glowforge, Cricut, LED wiring, and iPads.  Students today are what we call digital natives. That means they do not know a world without the use of handheld devices and their digital literacy is higher than us adults (digital tourists).
