Music
Music in BFMS
General music classes meet in grade level groupings. You can find more information about each individual grade level in their grade's page. Music classes run every other day for 45 minutes. This now means we will see students all year, providing opportunities to grow even farther in musical skills! Mrs. Boles teaches students in grades 6-8th while general music is covered with Mr. Rumrill for 5th grade.
Choir at BFMS
Our choir is open to all students from 5th-8th grade. We have both a beginers choir on Purple days, and Advanced choir on White days. Rehearsals last for 40 minutes each morning from 8:00-8:40. We practice a variety of skills from how to stretch and warm up the voice to being able to read through two part music, and even how to sing in a round! We also require students to attend our concerts which happen twice a year with other small performances sprinkled throughout the year as well.
Music Standards
In 2014 the standards for music changed nationally to work towards proficiency based grading in the USA. We now use the following 4 standards:
- Create
- Perform
- Respond
- Connection
If you ever have a question on how a standard is being used in grading, or how it applies to an assignment or task feel free to email.
Ellen Boles
My name is Ellen Boles and I am excited to be teaching your students at BFMS! This is my 5th year teaching, and my 3rd year here. I attended school not too far from here in Twin Valley in Wilmington, Vermont graduating in 2014. I then ventured up to Johnson, Vermont where I attended Johnson State College which has now rebranded to Vermont State Universities. I earned a double BFA degree in both music education and music performance in classical voice in 2019.
When I'm not at work I spend my time with my husband and our beautiful orange cat Simba watching anything from horror movies to brilliant comedies. We love to listen to a variety of music as well from our favorite Disney tunes, to Broadway show tunes, to 80s rock and pop or even Halloween tunes. We love traveling around New England in search of the best food we can find on a great roadtrip!
